We're Undergoing A Makeover

A message to all members of OAK:     Starting February 27, 2012, anyone visiting OAK at its ning network will be redirected to OAK's new webpage which features OAK's new mission.  Rather than being a management tool for grassroots advocates, OAK will focus on promoting its RESPECT Human Rights Campaign that began in 2010.       The biggest downside is that as of February 28, 2012, OAK members will no longer have access to the pages, features, and apps of our ning network.       The wonderful…See More

ACTION ALERTS:

There are no OAK Action Alerts at this time. However, you may familiarize yourself with our Action Alert form by CLICKING HERE

OAK is a national consortium of grassroots advocates committed to protecting and advancing all aspects of human rights for low and moderate income Americans* through strategic planning, appropriate activism, and mutual support.

WHEREAS the five (5) pillars
of American society are the
general rights of its people to
decent, affordable housing; a
sound education; reasonable employment; the fair and impartial administration of civil and criminal justice; and good health, OAK members and their activism are spread among five basic groups.

OAK's Respect Human Rights Campaign:

On April 15, 2010, OAK made what should prove to be a historic contribution to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of America's human rights record.

What may be most important about OAK's joint UPR submission is its formulation for proving national noncompliance with the rule of law. That state seemed beyond any manageable empirical study before we suggested it could hinge on the presence or absence of meaningful citizen oversight.

Signatories to the submission are OAK with its sponsor, National Judicial Conduct and Disability Law Project, Inc. (NJCDLP); Tom Devine, Legal Director, Government Accountability Project (GAP); and OAK Anchor Members: National Forum On Judicial Accountability (NFOJA); POPULAR, Inc. (POPULAR – Power Over Poverty Under Laws of America Restored); and the National Whistleblowers Center (NWC).

Recipients of OAK's joint UPR submission are the U.N. Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights; the U.S. State Department; U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder; attorney Thomas Perez, Chief of the Civil Rights Division - U.S. Department of Justice; and several members of Congress.
